“The world’s smallest, tallest tripod” – that’s what the cult tripod manufacturers at Three Legged Thing say about the Pro 2.0 Albert. British understatement and superlative rolled into one? Definitely, because the Albert, in the latest edition of the successful Pro series, not only brings some interesting design updates but also addresses one of the biggest drawbacks of small and lightweight travel tripods.

A balanced combination of travel-friendliness, weight and stability

The main problem with many travel tripods is their compact pack size. This requires many sections, which comes at the expense of working height and load capacity. Due to having more leg sections than conventional tripods, they are also often less stable and sturdy than other tripods with a larger pack size and fewer sections. This is precisely where the designers at 3LT have stepped in, delivering an impressive working height of 1.80 m (1.90 m with a ball head), which can be reduced to a pack size of 43 cm – still perfectly suitable for travel. You’ll probably find no other tripod anywhere else that offers such a strong balance between height and portability, as no other tripod with a pack size under 50 cm comes anywhere near the 2-metre mark! And what about stability? Thanks to 8-layer pure carbon fibre combined with the updated ParaLock twist locks for even more stable leg locking, no compromises need to be made here. The enormous load capacity of up to 30 kg is easily sufficient for almost every conceivable camera and lens. For a wide variety of applications, the tripod legs can be locked into 3 different angle positions (23, 55 and 80 degrees) using a simple sliding mechanism. The load capacity also depends on this angle; it drops from 30 kg at 23 degrees to a still very respectable 10 kg at an 80-degree leg angle.

Ready for any application

The extremely adjustable working height from 12 cm to 1.90 m, the option to use it as a monopod, and an extendable, reversible and removable centre column make the 3LT Pro 2.0 Albert a constant companion in all situations. The elegant anodised finish in metallic bronze with copper and metallic blue accents on the ball head makes the Pro 2.0 series a visual highlight, whilst also enhancing durability. Precision mechanisms make the camera tripod easy to use, and other latest-generation features such as the ergonomic Tri-Mount mounting plate, interchangeable tripod feet for any surface and much more offer significantly enhanced functionality.

Innovation 1: All three legs are removable!

From a professional travel tripod to a tabletop, table tripod or monopod? It’s possible! To make this conversion possible, the 3LT design team has made not just one, as is usually the case, but all three legs removable. The separately available VANZ Spikes (mini-legs, so to speak) can then be screwed into the top section. This feature opens up a wide range of new applications in macro photography as well as in tabletop photography. Naturally, the centre column is also removable and can be inverted to focus particularly close to the ground.

Innovation 2: Update for the ball head

The designers at 3LT have revamped the tried-and-tested AirHed Pro ball head: the grips on this compact yet powerful ball head now feature new, ribbed grip surfaces – for even better ergonomics and improved ease of use. The AirHed Pro is the version with a clamping screw and an Arca-compatible plate mount.

Innovation 3: Even more secure locks for quick and reliable fixing of the tripod legs

The ParaLock twist locks have been further improved on the Albert 2.0 to make handling even more comfortable and to increase stability. The newly redesigned twist locks exert greater clamping force to ensure the tripod legs are locked in place with absolute stability. Even in poor weather conditions and cold temperatures, these easy-to-grip locks are simple to operate, allowing the tripod to be set up at the desired height and position in a flash and without any awkward contortions. Another key feature of the ParaLock twist locks are the locking rings, which completely prevent the tripod legs from accidentally loosening or slipping out, as can happen with conventional twist locks. Furthermore, this achieves a significantly higher clamping force than with other locking systems.

Interchangeable tripod feet for any surface

The 3LT Pro 2.0 Albert is equipped with specially shaped rubber feet for a non-slip grip even on smooth surfaces. For maximum stability on any surface, the tripod feet can be unscrewed and replaced with 4 different tripod feet available as accessories. All tripod legs feature a 3/8-inch female thread with a 1/4-inch female thread adapter, allowing other accessories to be mounted.

Sturdy carry bag for use as a counterweight

The 3LT Pro 2.0 Albert comes with a high-quality fabric bag featuring a detachable and adjustable shoulder strap for transporting the tripod. Furthermore, the bag can be filled with sand or stones via a nylon lining and attached to the D-ring on the tripod centre column using the supplied carabiner. This provides a simple way to create a counterweight for additional stabilisation of the tripod.

Toolz Multi-tool

The 3LT Pro 2.0 Albert also comes with the 3LT Toolz multi-tool, which serves as a screwdriver, Allen key, carabiner, bottle opener and key ring. This allows you to carry out all relevant tasks when using a camera tripod (tightening the quick-release plate, changing the quick-release base and tripod feet, readjusting the tripod leg joints, etc.).
