Leo 2.0 – the ultra-compact travel tripod from the Pro series

With the tripods from the Eclipse and Equinox series, the British team at Three Legged Thing have made history in innovation. Tripods with new, innovative features, stylish design and uncompromising quality that established the brand’s reputation as a premium manufacturer. In the new 2.0 edition, 3LT continues this success story whilst giving the tripods some interesting design updates.

A powerhouse for your hand luggage: a packed size of 37 cm with a load capacity of 30 kg!

The Leo 2.0 travel tripod is the most compact tripod in the series – and a true all-rounder. Just like its predecessor, it is made from pure, 8-layer carbon fibre, and the 5 leg sections can be folded down to a mere 37 cm pack size. The high quality standards applied to the material pay off, as the load capacity of up to 30 kg is enormous for such a small tripod. Hardly any other tripod of this size comes anywhere near such impressive figures. This is particularly true when you consider its own weight: at 1.8 kg with a ball head or 1.5 kg without, the load capacity is 20 times its own weight. For a wide variety of applications, the tripod legs can be locked into 3 different angle positions (23, 55 and 80 degrees) using a simple sliding mechanism. The load capacity also depends on this angle; it drops from 30 kg at 23 degrees to a still robust 10 kg at an 80-degree leg angle.

Innovation 1: All three legs are detachable!

From a large professional tripod to a tabletop, table tripod or monopod? It’s possible! To make this conversion possible, the 3LT design team has made not just one, as is usually the case, but all three legs removable. The separately available VANZ Spikes (mini-legs, so to speak) can then be screwed into the top section. This feature opens up a wide range of new applications in macro photography as well as in tabletop photography. Naturally, the centre column is also removable and can be inverted to focus particularly close to the ground.

Innovation 2: Update for the ball head

The designers at 3LT have revamped the tried-and-tested AirHed Pro ball head: the grips on this compact yet powerful ball head now feature new, ribbed grip surfaces – for even better ergonomics and improved ease of use. The AirHed Pro LV is the version featuring a practical clamping lever (“Lever”), an Arca-compatible quick-release mechanism for all plates with this profile. The lever allows the mechanism to be opened or locked in a flash, securing the quick-release plate inside. Conveniently, the lever can be mounted on the right or left side, depending on which hand you prefer.

Innovation 3: Even more secure locks for quick and reliable fixing of the tripod legs

The ParaLock twist locks have been further improved on the Leo 2.0 to make handling even more comfortable and to increase stability. The newly redesigned twist locks exert greater clamping force to ensure the tripod legs are locked in place with absolute stability. Even in poor weather conditions and cold temperatures, these easy-to-grip locks are simple to operate, allowing you to set up the tripod at the desired height and position in a flash and without any awkward contortions. Another key feature of the ParaLock twist locks are the locking rings, which completely prevent the tripod legs from accidentally coming loose or slipping out, as can happen with conventional twist locks. Furthermore, this achieves a significantly higher clamping force than with other locking systems.

Interchangeable tripod feet for any surface

The 3LT Pro 2.0 Leo is equipped with specially shaped rubber feet to ensure a non-slip grip even on smooth surfaces. For maximum stability on any surface, the tripod feet can be unscrewed and replaced with 4 different tripod feet available as accessories. All tripod legs feature a 3/8-inch internal thread with a 1/4-inch internal thread adapter, allowing other accessories to be mounted.

Sturdy carry bag for use as a counterweight

The 3LT Pro 2.0 Leo comes with a high-quality fabric bag featuring a detachable and adjustable shoulder strap for transporting the tripod. Furthermore, the bag can be filled with sand or stones via a nylon lining and attached to the D-ring on the tripod centre column using the supplied carabiner. This provides a simple way to create a counterweight for additional stabilisation of the tripod.

Toolz Multi-Tool

The 3LT Pro2.0 Leo also comes with the 3LT Toolz multi-tool, which serves as a screwdriver, Allen key, carabiner, bottle opener and key ring. This allows you to carry out all relevant tasks when using a camera tripod (tightening the quick-release plate, changing the quick-release base and tripod feet, readjusting the tripod leg joints, etc.).
