B+W MRC nano coating

B+W MRC nano-coated filters feature a high-quality 7-layer MC coating on both sides, as used in the classic MRC coating. This ensures high transmission and maximum anti-reflection by minimising reflection losses.

Whilst conventional MC coatings result in approximately 4% reflection loss at the glass surface, this figure is reduced to well below 0.5% on average with the MRC coating. This results in more brilliant colours and higher contrast.

The MRC nano outer layer is an innovative additional layer that significantly surpasses the dirt- and water-repellent effect of the well-known B+W MRC coating.

When moving from a cold to a warm environment, the mist clears from the filter glass surface within a very short time.

Flexible light control without changing filters

Thanks to its continuously adjustable density, the B+W ND-Vario filter can be precisely adjusted to the specific shooting situation. The required density can be selected between +1 and +5 f-stops via an index setting.

To avoid aberrations, the adjustment range is deliberately limited. Colour reproduction remains constant across the entire adjustment range. This ensures professional image quality even at high filter factors.

Typical applications include large apertures in bright light, long exposure times for capturing flowing water, and DSLR and video shots with a constant aperture.

To prevent vignetting, the B+W ND-Vario filter is oversized. The front section is one filter diameter size larger than the lens mount.

Practical tip

When using long exposure times, DSLR photographers should cover or close the optical viewfinder to prevent incorrect readings. Minor colour deviations are usually corrected by the automatic white balance. Alternatively, a manual white balance or correction in the RAW workflow is recommended.
