This bokeh is made possible by Canon’s original DS coating – a highly sophisticated coating technology that defines a high transmission rate at the centre of the lens and a lower rate at the edges. Without compromising image quality, the DS coating is applied to both the front and rear surfaces of the lens – making the out-of-focus areas in the foreground and background appear particularly soft and uniformly blurred – unlike comparable lenses on the market, where only one side of an optical element is coated.
