The GF500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR is exceptionally light and easy to handle for a super-telephoto lens with a focal length of 500mm (equivalent to 396mm in 35mm format). It weighs just around 1,375g (excluding accessories), making it ideal for on-the-go use in sports, wildlife and bird photography. The optical design comprises a total of seven Super ED and ED elements, which ensure high optical performance, amongst other things by effectively minimising chromatic aberrations that typically occur in super-telephoto lenses. Its compact design is also primarily due to the use of these special glass elements. Fast and precise autofocus and optical image stabilisation of up to six EV stops (according to the CIPA standard, for pitch and yaw) round off the features.

Longest telephoto focal length in the GF series

With a focal length of 500mm (equivalent to 396mm in 35mm format), the GF500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR is the GF lens with the longest reach. It is ideal for sports, wildlife and bird photography. When used in combination with the optional FUJINON GF1.4X TC WR teleconverter, the focal length extends to 700mm (equivalent to 554mm full-frame).

Robust and lightweight

The optical system of the GF500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR comprises 21 elements in 14 groups. Thanks to the optimised arrangement of the two Super-ED and five ED lenses, which serve to correct optical colour aberrations (chromatic aberrations) and ensure high resolution, the lens impresses with its compact and lightweight design. It is perfectly balanced and comfortable to hold. Weighing just around 1,375g, it is unusually light for a super-telephoto lens designed for use with large-format camera systems. Splash- and dust-proof: The lens is sealed in 18 places to prevent the ingress of moisture and dust and remains fully operational down to minus 10 degrees Celsius. The front element features a fluorine coating with dirt- and water-repellent properties. The lens can therefore be used with confidence even in adverse weather conditions.

Integrated image stabiliser

The optical image stabiliser in the GF500mm F5.6 R LM OIS WR allows for longer exposure times of up to six EV stops (according to the CIPA standard, in the pitch/yaw direction). The improved mechanism, together with advanced acceleration and gyro sensors, ensures highly precise compensation for unwanted movements. This means that even when shooting handheld with the long super-telephoto focal length on GFX cameras, you can capture sharp images.

Faster and more precise autofocus

The lens’s internal focusing system ensures consistently high optical performance across the entire focus range. The focus group, which incorporates a smaller and lighter focus lens, is moved quickly and almost silently by a powerful linear motor. Focusing takes approximately 0.31 seconds*. Even in challenging situations, the subject is focused on precisely, ensuring it is captured with razor-sharp clarity at the decisive moment. If required, a specific focus setting can be saved and recalled using the focus preset button**. When the button is pressed, the lens instantly focuses on the preset distance. This function is particularly useful in situations where a subject needs to be focused on repeatedly at the same point. The ‘Focus Area Selection button’** allows you to limit the distance range used by the autofocus, enabling even faster focusing. This function is particularly effective when photographing subjects at a distance of five metres or more. There is also a focus control button** on the front of the lens, which can be used to activate a pre-defined AF function whilst taking photographs or filming, without having to interrupt the shot.
