Despite its sophisticated features, the fast XF23mmF1.4 R LM WR is simple and comfortable to use. It weighs just around 375 grams and is 77.8 mm long with a filter diameter of 58 mm. A robust body and a splash- and dust-resistant construction complete the lens.
High resolution from as wide as f/1.4
The optical design of the XF23mmF1.4 R LM WR comprises 15 elements in ten groups. Two aspherical lenses and three ED glass elements effectively minimise chromatic and spherical aberrations. Even at the maximum aperture of F1.4, consistently high resolution is achieved across the entire image area, regardless of the shooting distance. This is largely due to an aspherical lens and a further optical element, which together ensure consistently high imaging performance from the minimum focusing distance to ‘infinity’ (∞).
High light intensity and attractive bokeh
The large aperture of F1.4 allows for sharp and noise-free images even in poor lighting conditions, such as indoors or after dark. Even at F1.4, the lens offers a precise depth of field as well as a velvety-soft bokeh effect free from colour casts. The result is an almost three-dimensional image effect. The details of the main subject stand in attractive contrast to the background, which is rendered in soft blur. Nine aperture blades ensure almost circular bokeh even at the widest aperture.
Popular wide-angle focal length with a wide range of applications
The XF23mmF1.4 R LM WR offers a popular and versatile focal length of 35 mm (35mm equivalent). The minimum focusing distance is 19 cm, with a maximum magnification of 0.2x. Compared to its predecessor, the lens is therefore even better suited to close-up shots with enhanced depth of field: whilst the main subject in the foreground is visible at close range, a larger section of the background is captured. In practice, this provides greater creative freedom, as a wider range of possible perspectives allows for greater control over the spatial relationship between objects in the foreground and background.

Faster, more precise and silent autofocus
The wide-angle lens features internal focusing, whereby the lightweight focus group is moved precisely and silently into the desired position by a linear motor. The autofocus locks onto the subject in as little as 0.04 seconds*, ensuring the exposure is always captured at the decisive moment. When shooting moving subjects in AF-C mode, the focus stays locked onto the main subject. This guarantees sharp images even in dynamic situations.
