The mirrorless system cameras in the FUJIFILM GFX series are particularly prized for the unrivalled image quality delivered by their large-format sensor*1. The sensor is 1.7 times larger than a conventional 35mm sensor (‘full-frame’). The FUJIFILM GFX100S II is the latest model and, weighing just 883g*2, is the lightest camera in the GFX series. It is equipped with the high-resolution GFX 102MP CMOS II sensor and the powerful, latest-generation X-Processor 5, whose combination ensures unrivalled image quality.
Wide dynamic range with the finest tonal gradations
Photographs taken with the GFX100S II are characterised by a wide dynamic range with the finest tonal gradations and a three-dimensional image effect, both of which are made possible by the unique characteristics of the large-format image sensor. The camera also features advanced subject recognition based on deep learning technology, which has been significantly enhanced compared to the previous model*3. With its fast autofocus and continuous shooting at up to seven frames per second*4, the GFX100S II allows you to capture dynamic subjects with precision. The built-in five-axis image stabiliser is the most advanced in the series and allows for longer exposure times by up to eight EV stops*5. The camera is also suitable for high-quality video recording in 4K/30p. The GFX100S II offers discerning photographers a straightforward introduction to large-format photography. Its outstanding image quality and compact body make it a camera that is simply a pleasure to use.
Large-format 102-megapixel sensor
The GFX100S II is equipped with the GFX 102MP CMOS II sensor and the powerful X-Processor 5, a combination that delivers unrivalled image quality. During development, FUJIFILM drew on its decades of experience in the field of colour reproduction, ensuring that even the finest details are rendered with razor-sharp clarity. The sensor features a pixel structure that enables higher saturation and, consequently, a low standard sensitivity of ISO 80. Compared to its predecessor, the GFX100S II offers a wider dynamic range and improved noise performance.*6 The sensor’s microlenses have been optimised to increase light yield at the edges of the image. This results in improved imaging performance and more precise autofocus in the peripheral areas. The GFX100S II offers a total of 20 film simulations, including ‘REALA ACE’ for natural colour reproduction and high-contrast tonality. This provides a wide range of image styles that, much like analogue films, can be selected to suit the subject being photographed. With the ‘Pixel Shift Multi-Shot’ function, the camera captures 16 high-resolution RAW images in succession, shifting the image sensor by 0.5 pixels after each exposure. The individual photos produced in this way can be merged using the ‘Pixel Shift Combiner’ software to create a single image file with a resolution of up to 400 megapixels. In ‘Real Colour’ mode, four RAW files are captured with a shift of one pixel per shot to produce a high-resolution 102-megapixel image with maximum natural colour reproduction. Compared with the previous model, the shooting process is now four times faster and the data volume required is four times smaller.
Built-in image stabiliser
The GFX100S II is equipped with an advanced image stabiliser. This utilises information from the image sensor as well as highly sensitive gyro and accelerometer sensors to compensate for the slightest camera vibrations with the utmost precision. It is possible to take photographs with longer exposure times of up to eight EV steps*5. Even in very low light, sharp images can be captured handheld.
Compact body and ease of use
Measuring approximately 104mm in height and 87mm in depth, the GFX100S II is just as compact as its predecessor. Weighing only around 883g, it is the lightest GFX camera with a 102-megapixel sensor. The body features a grip-enhancing BISHAMON-TEX*7 finish and can be held securely in the hand even when using unusual grip positions or during long shoots.
High-speed AF and rapid continuous shooting
An advanced AF algorithm not only ensures improved automatic focusing on faces and eyes, but also enables object recognition autofocus based on deep learning technology. Thanks to powerful artificial intelligence, the camera recognises animals, birds, cars, motorbikes, bicycles, aeroplanes, trains, insects and drones*8, automatically tracks them and keeps them in focus. The photographer can concentrate fully on the moment of capture and the composition of the image. The enhanced AF algorithm enables improved prediction of subject movement. The camera focuses on dynamic and fast-moving subjects even more reliably than the previous model. The faster readout speed of the GFX 102MP CMOS II sensor and an advanced shutter mechanism allow continuous shooting at up to seven frames per second. This enables you to capture unique snapshots of dynamic subjects. The GFX100S II is equipped with a high-resolution viewfinder featuring 5.76 million pixels and 0.84x magnification. The optically corrected viewfinder image can be viewed comfortably from a variety of eye positions.
4K video function
When recording video, the standard sensitivity of ISO 100 is available for even higher image quality, along with Tracking AF for automatically tracking a moving subject. The subject to be tracked can be selected directly via the touchscreen whilst recording in ‘AF-C + Wide/Tracking’ mode. Videos can be recorded in 4K quality at 30 frames per second and saved to the camera’s internal SD card with 4:2:2 10-bit colour depth. If an external SSD*9 is connected to the camera via a USB Type-C cable, recording is also possible in the Apple ProRes*10 video codec. With the GFX100S II, video can be recorded in F-Log2 mode, which offers a dynamic range of more than 13 stops*11. This provides additional creative freedom during post-production. External recorders for backing up or playing back video data can be connected via HDMI. This allows, for example, a sequence in F-Log2 quality to be recorded onto the external storage medium whilst the video is being monitored on an external monitor using a film simulation. The camera can therefore be integrated into individual shooting set-ups in a variety of ways. The GFX100S II supports the ‘Frame.io | Camera to Cloud’ cloud service. Video and photo files can be uploaded directly. This significantly speeds up the workflow from shooting to editing.
MHG-GFX S Handle (available as an optional extra)
The robust metal handgrip allows the camera to be held securely, even during extended shoots or when using larger telephoto lenses. The grip also enables the camera to be quickly mounted on a tripod.
Membership of C2PA*12 and CAI*13
The fight against the manipulation of digital photos and videos, as well as the curbing of disinformation, have become key concerns for image creators worldwide in recent years. Fujifilm has joined the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA) and the Content Authenticity Initiative (CAI), which are developing an industry standard for the authenticity of digital content. Fujifilm is participating in a project that aims to protect digital content, creators and users by means of a digital fingerprint. Furthermore, Fujifilm is developing a system that enables tamper-proof information regarding the location and time of capture, as well as a record of the editing history, to be integrated into the image metadata. This feature will be progressively*14 implemented in the GFX100S II and other cameras in the GFX and X series*15.
