Hasselblad XCD 2.5/55V

HASSELBLAD XCD 55mm f/2.5

The XCD 2.5/55V standard lens corresponds to a full-frame focal length of 43 mm and produces a field of view similar to that of the human eye. This perspective, combined with the soft bokeh effect of the large f2.5 aperture, makes this lens an excellent choice for full-length or half-length portraits and ideal for documentary, still life or everyday photography. When using the XCD 2.5/55V lens with a small aperture, the central shutter can produce the 8-point starburst effect typical of Hasselblad when shooting bright light sources. With its compact optical design, small and lightweight focusing module and optimised central shutter, the XCD 2.5/55V weighs just 372 g, yet delivers top-class optical performance.

Precise optics, outstanding images

Capturing the finest nuances of light and shadow begins with the lens. Only with excellent resolution and colour reproduction can it provide a solid foundation for imaging. A medium-format sensor has a large surface area and high pixel density, which places high demands on the precision of the lens. Starting with the selection of high-quality glass, Hasselblad engineers carefully grind each lens to perfect its optical quality and meet the resolution requirements of 100 million pixels.

The XCD 2.5/55V lens features nine elements in eight groups, including two aspherical elements, one ED glass element and a specially manufactured large-diameter aspherical element. With its optimised arrangement, the lens is not only compact in size but also improves light transmission and suppresses chromatic aberration. Combining the XCD 2.5/55V with a Hasselblad mirrorless medium-format camera delivers impressive results.

New focus module: fast, light, precise

The improved focus module uses a linear stepper motor and a lighter, smaller lens group for focusing. These changes eliminate any lag caused by the movement of the lens group and, together with the X2D 100C’s PDAF technology, mean that the focus position can be reached quickly and a precise stop achieved. The result is fast, flexible and accurate focusing.

Small central shutter, big help

The central shutter is a powerful component in Hasselblad’s medium-format system. The XCD 2.5/55V lens is equipped with an improved central shutter which, although smaller, retains the same precision performance as its predecessors and is fast and quiet to avoid disruption whilst shooting. Furthermore, this extremely small shutter operates at speeds of up to 1/2000 s and provides flash synchronisation at all speeds.

A familiar yet new aesthetic

The XCD 2.5/55V is a precision-crafted metal lens featuring a focus ring and a newly added control ring. Both rings are finely engraved with a Hasselblad ‘H’ logo. The design is created using a precise 0.3 mm milling process and pays homage to the unforgettable look of the HC/HCD lenses. Whether used with the X System or 907X cameras, this new lens is both a tribute to the past and a unique, elegant statement.

Comfortable and intuitive control

The lens is designed to feel comfortable and intuitive in the hand, fully supporting the creative process rather than distracting from it. The tactile mechanics of the focus and control rings are finely tuned for a smooth and sensory experience. A simple push and pull of the focus ring switches from AF to MF mode, and the intuitive scale markings allow focus distance and depth of field to be identified immediately at a glance. The control ring can be customised for quick access to preferred functions, making shooting more convenient and efficient.
