Leofoto Ranger LS-284CEX Carbon Fibre Tripod with Levelling Base

For those who do not wish to extend the three tripod legs to different lengths to compensate for uneven ground, the Ranger LS-284CEX offers an alternative to the LS-284C. Instead of a rigid head plate, the tripod legs are joined here beneath a levelling base. With up to 15° of tilt in any direction, it allows for the generally desired horizontal camera alignment in many situations. An extremely useful adjustment aid, particularly for video and panorama shots! For the convenience offered by the Ranger LS-284CEX, quite a few photographers are even quite happy to accept that the load capacity is limited to ‘only’ 8 kg due to the movable levelling unit (cf. LS-284C with identical tripod legs: 12 kg). Working heights: maximum 1,480 mm, minimum 850 mm. Other specifications: weight of just 1,320 g (including built-in levelling base), with a packed size of 505 mm.

Leofoto Ranger series – the ultra-light yet extremely sturdy carbon fibre tripods

The very essence of the compact and lightweight Leofoto Ranger tripods is nature itself. On days-long photography expeditions, every gram and every millimetre counts to minimise the volume and weight of your kit. Yet all equipment must not only be space- and weight-saving, but also meet very high standards. Stability under all circumstances – that is the requirement. The material, carbon, ensures the required lightness. Its stability and resistance to vibration ‘grow’ with the number of layers. Apart from the Traveler tripod series and the monopods, Leofoto tripods are made from ten-layer carbon. The deliberately modular design of all tripods in the Leofoto Ranger series – with the centre column not built-in but attached only when needed – makes it possible to limit your kit to the bare essentials.
With their small diameters, the head plates of the Ranger series also fit into the space-saving concept. And because they are CNC-machined from strong aircraft-grade aluminium, they fit perfectly. The head plate screw has a 3/8” thread. The tripod legs – consisting of three to five leg sections depending on the model – slide smoothly and without twisting. They are secured by easy-to-grip, rubberised twist locks. The rubber feet absorb unwanted vibrations. If necessary, they can be replaced with the supplied stainless steel spikes or optional snow and sand feet.

Leofoto Ranger LS-284CEX – without a centre column, but with convenient levelling

The levelling base itself can be locked in place using a sturdy locking knob and, of course, released. It is fitted with a 3/8” screw for a tripod head. Unlike many other tripod models in the Ranger series, the LS-284CEX does not come with a separate centre column. For the sake of good stability, it is also not recommended to attach a centre column (although one is available as an optional extra). This is because the swivelling of the levelling base already reduces lateral stability compared to tripods with a fixed head plate. However, a multi-tool and a set of stainless steel spikes are included, neatly stowed away in a carry bag together with the carbon tripod. Each tripod leg features four sturdy, smooth-gliding sections with diameters of 28, 25, 22 and 19 mm.
