LUMIX S-S35E 35mm F1.8 – A fast prime lens from Panasonic
- Lightweight wide-angle perspective
- Dust-, splash- and cold-resistant
- Compact and lightweight
- Attractive bokeh
- First-class video recording
- Quiet autofocus
- 67mm filter diameter
The LUMIX S 35mm F1.8 is a moderate wide-angle prime lens and the ideal choice for reportage, street photography or portraits with background detail. It impresses with its high optical performance, and its nine circular aperture blades ensure a particularly attractive bokeh. Furthermore, the lens offers outstanding portability thanks to its compact size and light weight. It also features a dust- and splash-resistant design and can be used in the most adverse conditions at temperatures as low as -10°C.
As part of the F1.8 lens series, it features the same size and position of controls, as well as the same 67mm filter diameter, to enable intuitive and consistent handling. Finally, it also ensures high-quality video by suppressing focus breathing.
Identical dimensions for simple and consistent handling
The four F1.8 fixed focal length lenses in the LUMIX S series, including the 85mm, 50mm, 24mm and the new 35mm lens, all share the same size and position of controls to enable the same intuitive operation or simple adjustments for use with a follow-focus. Identical dimensions also allow the use of the same 67mm filters, the same matte boxes or an underwater dome port with different focal lengths. The comparable weight distribution also eliminates the need for lengthy adjustments when the camera is mounted on a gimbal.
Sophisticated lens design for the best image quality
The LUMIX S 35mm F1.8 lens consists of eleven lens elements in nine groups, including three aspherical lenses and three ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) lenses. The use of three aspherical lenses and nine circular aperture blades enables both high imaging performance and an attractive bokeh effect with smooth transitions between sharp and blurred areas. The ED lenses effectively suppress chromatic aberration. The lens also ensures high-quality video recording by minimising focus breathing as much as possible. The aperture can be adjusted in extremely small steps, allowing for an almost stepless change in exposure – another feature essential for professional video recording. Finally, during the joint development of the F1.8 lenses, great importance was attached to a consistent image appearance as a further quality feature.
A particularly keen eye for focusing
The LUMIX S 35mm F1.8 operates quickly and silently with the camera’s high-precision contrast AF system at up to 240 fps. When using manual focus, you can select a non-linear or linear setting for the focus ring. In the non-linear setting, the focus is shifted by a variable amount depending on the rotation speed of the focus ring, for example to switch between focus areas more quickly. In the linear setting, however, the focus is always shifted linearly in accordance with the angle of rotation of the focus ring. In the linear setting, the entire focus range can be traversed from 90 to 360 degrees (adjustable in 30-degree increments). Thanks to the minimum focus distance of 0.24 m, it can also be used for close-up shots.
