The LUMIX S 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. is a versatile telephoto zoom lens that delivers outstanding image quality for photographers and videographers. This telephoto lens adds another impressive zoom option to the L-Mount system.
It combines the Dual I.S. system – the lens’s O.I.S. (Optical Image Stabiliser) – with the stabiliser in LUMIX S-series cameras, thereby compensating for camera shake and enabling a shutter speed 5.5 stops slower. The focus control, featuring a high-speed sensor drive at up to 480 fps, delivers fast, highly precise autofocus.
With an outstanding minimum focusing distance of 0.54m or 0.74m, the LUMIX S 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. achieves a maximum magnification of 0.5x (at 300mm), enabling half-life-size macro photography and videography. The rounded aperture with its 11 blades ensures a particularly attractive bokeh across the entire zoom range. Nevertheless, the LUMIX S 70-300mm F4.5-5.6 MACRO O.I.S. is compact and lightweight, enabling comfortable portability. The robust, dust- and splash-proof construction also withstands use in harsh conditions, even at -10°C. The fluorine coating on the front element is also water- and oil-repellent. The filter diameter is 77 mm.
The optimal arrangement of 17 lens elements in 11 groups, including one UED (Ultra Extra-low Dispersion) lens, two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lenses and one UHR (Ultra-High Refractive Index) lens, effectively suppresses both axial chromatic aberration at the telephoto end and magnification chromatic aberration at shorter focal lengths. In particular, the UHR lens achieves uniform image quality from the centre to the edges of the frame whilst also contributing to the lens’s compact size.
All LUMIX S-series lenses feature a mechanism that minimises ‘focus breathing’ for videographers – a phenomenon that occurs when using interchangeable lenses designed primarily for still photography. Furthermore, focus shift during zooming is suppressed, ensuring the subject remains in focus and enabling better video recordings.
