Peak Design Micro Clutch I-Plate – Wrist strap for cameras without a grip

Peak Design Micro Clutch I-Plate – Wrist strap for cameras without a grip

Handgrip for mirrorless cameras

High-performance mirrorless cameras have long since replaced the good old DSLR and established themselves in many areas thanks to their high-quality and handy technology. Clutch grips looked somewhat outdated on mirrorless cameras: they are too bulky and oversized for the slimmer cameras from Fujifilm, Panasonic, Sigma or Sony. With the Micro Clutch, Peak Design has now developed a model that is specifically designed for mirrorless cameras in every relevant aspect – from the form factor to the flexible wrist strap.

Finally, a wrist strap that keeps compact mirrorless cameras easy to handle! A practical and sturdy addition that harmonises perfectly with the elegant look of a Fuji, Leica or Sony.

Rounded base plate: elegant & robust

To hold the mirrorless camera just as securely, comfortably and without fatigue as the old SLR used to be held on the large Clutch, an anodised aluminium base plate with a wrist strap is used. The slim, rounded shape fits perfectly with models from all current camera brands and is also an exceptionally stylish addition to high-end models such as Fujifilm’s X100 series – it is just 0.7 cm thick. The contact surface is fully coated, preventing any slipping. The rounded edges blend seamlessly with tilting screens.

Adjustable wrist strap

The grip strap, made from highly tear-resistant Hypalon, is firmly anchored to the base plate but mounted on a swivel to adapt perfectly to your grip. It is also individually adjustable, much like a belt buckle. Depending on hand size and grip preference, it offers a comfortable hold for operating the camera with a two- or three-finger grip. At the top, the buckle is threaded through the split ring on the top of the camera; rings and an insertion aid are included.

L and I versions

To ensure the Micro Clutch also fits system cameras with moulded grips, two variants are available. The plate of the L variant has a recess on the right to cover the shape on models such as the Fujifilm X-T5 or the Sony Alpha series. Otherwise, both variants are identical.

Perfect combination options with Cuff, Leash and Slide

An Anchor Link can be threaded directly onto the plate or onto the Arca mount. The latter even has eyelets at each corner. The slim wrist strap is large enough for a secure grip, yet can still be combined perfectly with straps. The small plate from the Slide, Slide Lite and Leash for the anchor point at the bottom is then also unnecessary – the eyelets are positioned exactly there.

Battery replacement and Arca – pros and cons

During Peak Design’s Kickstarter campaign, many questions arose as to why the base plate covers the battery compartment or, on some models, the card slot, and why the Arca clamping plate is not moulded directly onto it. The latter is an advantage: with a directly moulded clamping profile, the base plate would have been much thicker and would no longer form a compact unit with a system camera. Attaching it to Arca ball heads or the Capture Clip is nevertheless no problem. There is a separate plate for this purpose, which clicks magnetically into the guide channel and is then secured to the camera’s tripod thread using a longer screw. And the battery? Had Peak Design incorporated a model-specific cut-out in the plate here, countless variants would have been required for the many different models – and ultimately, only versions for a few best-selling models would have made it to market. So the version with the integrated magnetic tool for quickly loosening the plate is a good compromise. The wrist strap itself doesn’t need to be adjusted either; it remains attached to the top.
