Canon Teleconverters | EF 2x III Extender | RF 2x | Buy

Buy Canon teleconverters (e.g. Extender EF 2X III, RF 2X & more) online

Whether on safari, taking bird photographs or at the stadium: if you want to bring distant subjects closer, Canon teleconverters are the ideal addition. They extend the focal length by a factor of 1.4 or 2 – without the need for an additional lens and with the usual high image quality.
In our range at Foto Siegl, you’ll find both the tried-and-tested EF extenders for Canon SLR cameras and the new RF teleconverters for mirrorless system cameras.

Greater reach with Canon extenders – without changing lenses

Teleconverters are optical attachments that are fitted between the camera and the lens. They increase the magnification, extend the focal length and thus offer greater reach – ideal for wildlife, sports or astrophotography.

With a 1.4x extender, for example, the focal length increases from 400 mm to 560 mm. With a 2x extender, it even reaches 800 mm. Your usual workflow remains unchanged – including autofocus, exposure metering and image stabilisation (with supported lenses).

Canon offers two series of teleconverters:

  • RF Extender (1.4x / 2x) for mirrorless EOS R cameras
  • EF Extender (1.4x III / 2x III) for DSLR cameras

Both series are precisely matched to selected Canon telephoto lenses and deliver maximum compatibility and image quality.

Canon RF Extender – optimised for mirrorless cameras

The Canon RF Extender 1.4x and 2x have been specially developed for the mirrorless EOS R system. They extend the focal length of compatible RF lenses whilst maintaining the high optical performance of the RF mount.

Thanks to precision manufacturing and seamless integration, autofocus, image stabilisation and electronic communication are fully retained. This makes them ideal for wildlife photography, sports or distant subjects in the highest quality.

Compatible Canon RF lenses (selection):

  • RF 100–500mm F4.5–7.1 L IS USM (usable from 300mm only)
  • RF 600mm / 800mm F11 IS STM
  • RF 400mm F2.8 / 600mm F4 / 800mm F5.6 / 1200mm F8 L IS USM
  • RF 200–800mm F6.3–9 IS USM

Important: The RF Extenders work exclusively with lenses officially approved by Canon. They cannot be used with other RF lenses or third-party models.

Canon EF Extenders – a tried-and-tested solution for DSLR telephoto lenses

The Canon EF 1.4x III and 2x III extenders are the ideal addition to your Canon SLR camera – particularly when used with high-performance EF telephoto lenses. They extend the focal length by a factor of 1.4 or 2 whilst retaining all the automatic functions of your DSLR.

Typical combinations with Canon EF lenses:

  • EF 70–200mm F2.8L IS III USM + 2x Extender = 140–400mm F5.6
  • EF 300mm F2.8L IS II USM + 1.4x extender = 420mm F4
  • EF 600mm F4L IS III USM + 2x extender = 1200mm F8

The EF extenders were developed for selected Canon telephoto lenses and are optimally tailored to the requirements of DSLR photography – ideal for wildlife photography, sports or distant subjects requiring high levels of detail.

Note: Use on mirrorless EOS R cameras is only possible via the EF-EOS R adapter – and works only with EF lenses, not with RF lenses.

Technical notes: Aperture, autofocus & image quality

When using teleconverters, there are technical changes that you should take into account when making your selection – particularly with regard to light intensity, autofocus function and compatibility.

  1. Light loss:
1.4x extender: loss of 1 stop
2x extender: loss of 2 stops
Example: An F4 telephoto lens becomes F5.6 or F8.
  2. Autofocus:
On modern Canon cameras, autofocus usually remains functional, but may respond more slowly depending on the combination.
Older DSLR models often only focus reliably up to a maximum of F5.6.
Mirrorless EOS R models still operate precisely even at F11/F13 – particularly with RF extenders.
  3. Compatibility:
Canon extenders work exclusively with selected Canon lenses.
Third-party lenses are not officially compatible – mechanical conflicts are possible.
RF extenders are limited to a defined list of super-telephoto lenses.

Suitable extras & accessories for Canon extenders

Canon teleconverters only work effectively when used with compatible accessories. For optimal results, we recommend:

  • RF and EF telephoto lenses: e.g. 70–200mm, 100–500mm, 600mm
  • UV/polarising/ND filters: useful in bright light or for enhancing contrast
  • Tripods and monopods: for stable results at long focal lengths
  • EF-EOS R adapters: for using EF components on EOS R cameras

These additions optimise handling, image quality and flexibility – ideal for anyone looking to expand their kit in a targeted way.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs):

1. By how much does a Canon teleconverter extend the focal length?
A Canon 1.4x extender increases the focal length by 40%, whilst a 2x extender doubles it. Example: 400mm becomes 560mm or 800mm. However, this reduces the maximum aperture by 1 or 2 stops respectively.

2. Which Canon RF lenses are compatible with the RF extenders?
The Canon RF 1.4x and 2x extenders work exclusively with selected Canon RF telephoto lenses, such as the RF 100–500mm, RF 600mm F11, RF 200–800mm or professional super-telephoto prime lenses.

3. Can Canon teleconverters be used with third-party lenses?
No. Canon extenders are designed exclusively for specific original lenses. Use with third-party lenses is not recommended and is often mechanically impossible.

4. Is a Canon EF extender also compatible with a mirrorless EOS R camera?
Yes, EF extenders can be used on a mirrorless EOS R camera via the Canon EF-EOS R adapter, but only in conjunction with an EF lens, not with RF lenses.
