Tip: Depending on the lens used, both extension rings can also be used together. This allows the close-up range to be extended further, the reproduction ratio increases, and the distance to the subject becomes correspondingly shorter.

Extension rings for the Fujifilm GFX medium format

Extension rings can also be used for close-up photography in the Fujifilm GFX system. As with the X system, they are mounted between the camera and the lens, and the basic principle of operation is identical.

In practice, however, the effect is different from that of X-System cameras. Due to the larger sensor and the GF lenses designed for medium format, an extension tube does not automatically result in very short focusing distances or extreme magnifications. With the GFX system, how close you can get to the subject and what magnification is achieved depends particularly heavily on the lens used.

When is a macro lens the better choice?

A macro lens is the right choice if close-up or macro photography is an integral part of your work. It is designed for short focusing distances and enables consistent results without the need for additional adapters.

A macro lens is particularly recommended if:

high magnification is regularly required
a defined working distance is crucial for the subject
sharpness and handling need to remain consistent at close range
